Abstract

The field of industrial hygiene first began in Korea with the establishment of the Labor Stand-ards Act in 1953. Since then, the system has been continuously expanded and improved to maintain and promote worker safety and health. In January 2020, the Industrial Safety and Health Act was fully revised, and on January 27, 2022, the Law on Punishment of Major Disas-ters and Other Matters was enacted to strengthen the effectiveness and enforcement of the Indus-trial Safety and Health Act. As a result, workplaces now employ health management practitioners with nursing or industrial hygiene qualifications to continuously manage harmful risk factors and prevent industrial accidents. The purpose of this study is to identify the job environment, emotional labor, and job stress factors that affect health management practitioners and to in-crease job efficiency. Using G-power 3.1.9 software, a model with four predictor variables was developed to examine the effects of three sub-factors of job environment and emotional labor on job stress. A sample size of 129 individuals was confirmed, and a survey was conducted with 130 health management practitioners in order to meet the conditions of the recent legal changes mandating the employment of health management practitioners. The results indicate that among the job environment factors, personal environment should be well-cultivated to reduce job stress, and that job stress increases with higher levels of emotional labor. Due to recent legal changes, many organizations are staffing the minimum number of personnel to perform health manage-ment tasks. Therefore, it can be inferred that personal environment is relatively more important than organizational and job-related support. However, it has been suggested that health man-agement should include not only health and hygiene, but also hazardous materials management and accident prevention, requiring a variety of professionals. By assembling such teams, it is expected that safety and promotion within the organization, as well as organizational support, can become resources for reducing job stress. Regarding the results showing that emotional la-bor raises stress levels, appropriate education and human resource management should be pro-vided to employees in order to enhance their coping skills for emotional labor and minimize job stress. Through this, the study aims to contribute positively to the health and safety culture with-in organizations and prevent industrial accidents.
